Muchelney Parish Meeting was first recorded in 1894, following the Local Government Act of the same year, which established parish meetings as a form of local governance for smaller rural communities. This allowed residents to have a direct voice in local matters, rather than electing a parish council. The original meeting book from 1894 still exists today, preserving over a century of community decisions, discussions, and local governance.
